📍 Location: London area (Hybrid – minimum 2 days in the office per week)
📅 Contract: ASAP start – 31 March 2026
💰 Rate: £25 per hour PAYE (Umbrella available at an enhanced rate) – inside IR35
🏢 Working arrangement: Hybrid – min. 2 days per week in the office
We are working with a high-profile local authority who require an experienced Senior Allocations & Lettings Officer to join their team on an interim basis.
This is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role in managing social housing allocations, lettings, and nominations, including significant upcoming new build delivery. You will be responsible for working with colleagues and partners to implement Nominations Agreements and Local Lettings Plans for new schemes, ensuring legal compliance and excellent customer service throughout.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the provision of social housing in line with council policies, procedures, and housing legislation (Housing Act 1996 Part VI, Homelessness Act 2002).
- Oversee allocations through housing registers, transfers, decants, under-occupation schemes, and Local Lettings Plans.
- Work closely with Registered Providers to secure and manage nominations, adhering to agreed policies and agreements.
- Lead and motivate a team to deliver a responsive, high-quality allocations and lettings service.
- Support void turnaround targets by liaising with the voids and property teams to minimise rent loss.
- Handle high-profile and complex housing cases with sensitivity and professionalism.
- Maintain accurate records within housing IT systems, ensuring compliance with data and legal requirements.
- Collate and provide performance data, KPIs, and financial returns.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong background in Choice Based Lettings processes.
- Confidence in navigating and utilising housing IT systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain allocation processes and priorities to housing applicants.
- Experience managing and motivating housing staff to achieve service targets.
- Knowledge of housing and lettings legislation, including statutory codes of guidance.
- Ability to manage complex, sensitive cases and liaise effectively with stakeholders.
The Ideal Candidate Will Be:
- A confident, knowledgeable housing professional, ideally with local authority experience.
- Skilled in partnership working with Registered Providers and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable leading change and delivering results under tight deadlines.
- Passionate about providing excellent customer service, even in challenging situations.
