Job Description
What you’ll be doing as a Hydraulic Modeller
You'll be part of a small, specialist team maintaining and verifying hydraulic network models to support operational decisions. Your work will involve collaborating across departments, helping optimise water quality and system performance, resolving model anomalies, and contributing to solutions for leakage reduction, supply risks, and emergency incidents.
- Contributing to the build, maintenance, and verification of hydraulic network models, including flow and pressure surveys, as part of the Operational Hydraulic Modelling team.
- Supporting hydraulic modelling specialists in developing solutions and advising teams across Asset Management, Capital Delivery, and Clean Water Production.
- Collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to help shape operational and investment decisions.
- Assisting with water quality modelling at reservoir sites to optimise water transfer strategies, maintain reservoir turnover, and minimise impacts on customers, leakage, and energy.
- Reviewing and resolving model calibration anomalies with support from the Systems Optimisation team and field resources.
- Helping to design system reconfiguration schemes and support leakage reduction through calmer network operations.
- Supporting BAU solutions to address DG2 low-pressure and supply interruption risks.
- Assisting with solutions for emergency operational incidents where needed.
What you should bring to the role
- Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or an environmental discipline, with a strong interest in hydraulic modelling and the water industry.
- Experience with GIS is essential, with familiarity with Infowater, InfoWorks, or IW Live tools being desirable.
- Ability to interpret complex data, draw conclusions, and make informed recommendations across strategic projects.
- Strong communicator who can collaborate effectively and deliver high-quality, modelling-led solutions.
- Proficient in IT, numeracy, and data analysis, with attention to detail.
- Well-organised, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel across our operational area for site visits and meetings to support outputs and gain field experience.
- Competitive salary from up to £50,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
- 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)
- Performance-related pay plan directly linked to both company and individual performance measures and targets
- Generous Pension Scheme through AON
- Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of you and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances – from annual health MOTs and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
