Job Description
As part of the London Waste team, this role is accountable for day-to-day operational delivery of wastewater pumping services for 200 pumping stations and over 2 million customers in the Mogden Catchment.
We're looking for a driven individual to tackle customer and environmental challenges, lead asset investment, and champion operational excellence. You’ll work closely with teams across the Waste Directorate to meet performance, legal, and regulatory standards—while driving continuous improvement and minimising risk.
What you’ll be doing as an Area Pumping Manager:
- Oversee the implementation of health and safety standards.
- Take ownership of part of the delivery of a planned, proactive stakeholder and community engagement campaign.
- Drive delivery of maintenance schedules and recommend improvements based on local insight.
- Hold responsibility for compliance to environmental, legal, regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Drive optimal budgetary control of both operational and directly managed capital expenditure.
- Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Working pattern or hours: 36 Hours per week (Monday to Friday), plus the inclusion onto a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.
What you should bring to the role?
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
- Strong leadership with demonstrable ability to engage and motivate large, distributed teams
- Passion for health and safety with strong track record in fostering a strong culture of H&S excellence
- Ambassador for Thames Water with demonstrable ability to proactively engage & influence stakeholders and develop sustainable, long-lasting relationships both with networks and in the wider waste business
- Advocate for the environment with demonstrable track record of compliance and environmental excellence
- Strong financial and commercial acumen with demonstrable ability to manage to budget and to drive local accountability for cost control
- Full UK Driving Licence Required.
- Excellent IT literacy and communication skills.
- NEBOSH qualification
- Operational leadership background in wastewater process-related industries
- Understanding of industrial processes and identification of non-value-added activities
- Offering a starting salary of £48,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.
- Annual Leave: 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)
