Job Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Looking to build genuine KS2 classroom experience before teacher training?

Help pupils secure core skills through smart, structured support.

*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £81 - £101 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 and small group support across KS2

Day to day:
Work with Years 3–6 on targeted catch-up in reading, writing and maths. You’ll deliver short, well-planned sessions, pre-teach key content, and keep pupils on task with clear steps and examples. Expect a mix of in-class support and pull-out boosters, with simple progress notes shared with the class teacher each week.

You will bring:
Clear communication, tidy organisation, and a calm presence. You explain ideas in plain English, notice misconceptions early, and nudge pupils towards independent strategies rather than doing the work for them.

Requirements
• Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
• Communication – Strong verbal and written skills.
• Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
• Desire to work in education/with children – Real commitment to inclusion and pupil progress.
• Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (tutoring, mentoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ Wolverhampton primary is two-form entry with calm, predictable routines from arrival to home time. Reading is front and centre—systematic phonics lower down and daily guided reading in KS2—while maths follows a small-steps sequence with frequent retrieval and consistent methods across year groups. Year teams co-plan and share high-quality resources (model texts, worked examples, intervention packs), so you’re not reinventing the wheel. New staff get a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD, and coaching drop-ins with precise, usable next moves—ideal conditions to make quick impact and build a strong case for initial teacher training.

How to Apply
Send your CV, plus your availability and DBS status (add two referees if you can). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school interview/observation. Early applications are encouraged as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
