Job Description
Ready to build practical SEN skills in a high-support primary?
Work with pupils who present with SEMH, ADHD and autism so school feels safe and structured.
*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** January 2025 – July 2026
*** £82 - £103 per day
*** ‘Outstanding’ primary school, Central Birmingham
*** SEMH, ADHD and High Attention Autism support
The Role:
You will provide calm, reliable support across the school day. You will use visual schedules, first–then cues and clear step cards so tasks feel manageable. You will run short, purposeful sessions that build regulation, communication, reading fluency and basic number. You will coach routines for lining up, equipment checks and smooth transitions. You will apply de-escalation, simple emotion coaching and agreed scripts, then return pupils to learning with a clear re-entry plan. You will prepare low-effort tools such as timers, cue cards and checklists. You will record brief outcomes, share triggers and wins, and agree next steps with the class teacher and the SENCO.
The Candidate & Requirements:
You stay calm, notice early signs of dysregulation and act quickly. You keep boundaries warm and consistent.
- Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication, confident written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education or with children, strong interest in SEN and wellbeing.
- Experience supporting children or young people is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Outstanding’ Central Birmingham primary uses simple, predictable routines from arrival to home time. Staff follow joined-up behaviour plans with clear language, ready access to regulation spaces and quick plan–do–review cycles. Reading has protected daily time. Maths is taught in small steps with frequent low-stakes checks so methods stay consistent between classes. Teams share model texts, worked examples and ready-to-use intervention packs, which keeps preparation efficient and ensures your support aligns with the curriculum. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly CPD and focused coaching so impact shows quickly.
How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.
