Job Description
Want to lift GCSE results and build evidence for ITT? Coach small groups and individuals so methods are accurate and fast.
*** Maths Academic Coach
*** Immediate start until May 2026
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** ‘Outstanding’ secondary school, Ladywood
*** Support GCSE Maths in preparation for examinations
The Role:
You will run tightly planned boosters that mirror department sequencing. You will pre-teach key skills, model clear worked examples and guide practice until pupils are fluent and precise. Focus areas include arithmetic fluency, fractions and ratio, algebraic manipulation, equations and inequalities, geometry reasoning and data handling. You will use quick diagnostics to spot the sticking point, then fix it with step by step routines, retrieval and timed drills. You will teach exam craft, including reading the question, setting out working, checking with inverses and managing time. You will keep brief impact notes after each session, share next steps with class teachers and align your plan with mocks and topic tests. You will support calm starts, equipment checks and smooth transitions.
The Candidate & Requirements:
You are methodical, patient and precise in your explanations. You plan lean sessions that move pupils on.
- Degree, 2:2 or above in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
- Communication, clear written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS, already held or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education with intent to progress towards Maths teaching.
- Experience supporting young people, such as tutoring or mentoring, is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Outstanding’ Ladywood secondary has consistent routines that keep lessons purposeful. Maths is sequenced in small, connected steps with shared methods across classes and regular low stakes checks to find gaps early. The department provides model solutions, diagnostic quizzes, past paper item banks and short retrieval sets, so preparation is efficient and your sessions slot straight into classroom teaching. New colleagues receive a clear induction, weekly subject CPD and regular coaching with actionable next targets.
How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.
Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
