About the Role
Network Recruitment Wales is recruiting a dedicated Ground Maintenance Operative on behalf of our client for an 8-week temporary role to cover long-term sickness. Working within the Community & Place team (Commercial & Operations), this role is essential in delivering high-profile grounds maintenance and cleansing services to ensure a safe, clean, and sustainable environment across Monmouthshire.You will primarily focus on maintaining public open spaces, verges, planting, schools, and contracted sites, working either independently or as part of a team. The role may also involve supporting street services, such as litter picking and responding to fly-tipping, with waste collection duties only required if you opt into the bank holiday rota.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform grass cutting using handheld and ride-on equipment in public spaces and schools.
- Maintain horticultural features, including shrub beds and annual bedding areas.
- Mark and maintain sports facilities and undertake landscaping of open spaces.
- Carry out arboriculture work and respond to fly-tipping requests, ensuring proper evidence collection.
- Empty litter bins and perform proactive/reactive litter picking on open spaces, verges, and hard surfaces.
- Ensure vehicles and machinery are kept clean, with daily safety inspections completed.
- Assist with grave digging and cemetery tasks (with appropriate training).
- Support emergency responses (e.g., flooding, snow, or storm-related tasks) as part of a standby rota.
- Adhere to health and safety legislation, equal opportunities policies, and the council’s smoke-free workplace policy.
- Essential: Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Essential: 2 years’ references/work history.
- On Offer Acceptance: Confidentiality Agreement and Criminal Convictions Declaration.
- Clean and current UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable).
- Experience in grounds maintenance or a similar environment (desirable).
- Good understanding of health and safety practices and ability to follow council policies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills.
- Self-motivated with pride in delivering high-quality work.
- Flexibility to work outside core hours, including weekends and bank holidays, as part of a standby rota.
- Welsh language skills (desirable, Level 1–2 preferred).
